This is Album is an arrangement of the "Oru Seco" rhythms that are played on the Afro-Cuban Bata Drums. This sequence of rhythms is played for at the beginning of the celebration of a Yoruba/Lokumi Santeria ceremony. The rhythms are organized by "Toques" for each Orisha (deity). Within each Toque there are different roads and conversations that can occur. The order of the Toques can very depending on the purpose of the celebration.

These arrangements are based on the Matanzas style of playing that I learned from my teacher, Sandy Perez.

They are not strict arrangements, I do take some liberties to make the rhythms function better in the chekere. The bata drums are played as a set of 3 drums (3 players) with 2 drum heads on each drum. I translated this to chekere ensembles of 3, 4, or 5 players. In some cases 3 chekeres is sufficient to give the characteristic sound of the toque, in other cases, more chekeres are required.
